Venetian Batten

 What is Venetian Batten?

Our handcrafted Venetian fencing panels are a stylish form of contemporary fencing which provides a lighter, more spacious feel to your garden, courtyard or outdoor space.

What are the benefits?

  • Excellent privacy - features slats that are fixed to each side rather than just the one side, adding an extra layer of privacy.
  • Great for partitioning - Panels can be made to act as screens to create separate areas in your garden and even create storage areas.
  • Improved lighting - creates a lighter garden as it allows light to pass through the horizontal pales.
  • Long lifespan - Special treatment ensures the wood is capable of lasting up to 20 years.
  • Versatile - Can be added to existing fence panels and gates; can also be used as storage areas and makes for great cladding.
  • Wide range - They can be painted any colour or stained with linseed oil for a natural finish.

The Installation Process

For New Installation:
Post holes will be marked and dug, in which high-quality tanalised and treated timbers will be set into the holes with postcrete, level, flush and plumb to one another. Once the posts have set, horizontal battens will be fixed with pins along the posts to create the battened fence. Joints of the battens will be staggered with varying lengths of thickness on courses and wider joints towards the top of the fence to maximise light passage into the garden and give the top of the fence a nice detail.

Using Existing Fencing:
Existing fence posts will be used as fixing points for the slats. Horizontal battens will be fixed along the posts to create the battened fence. Joints of the battens will be staggered with widening joints towards the very top of the fence to maximise light passage and give the top of the fence a nice detail.

For a Venetian Gate:
First, a heavy-duty frame will be built out of structural and treated timber. High-quality battens will then be fixed horizontally the frame to create a Venetian battened finish, very strong drop hinges will then be attached to the gate and connected to the fixture (e.g. Brick column). The gates will be hung level and flush to each other. A thumb latch will then be installed along with drop bolts to ensure the gate shuts and stays closed.

For a Venetian Bin Store:
Tanalised and incised posts will be set deeply into the ground using postcrete. A frame will then be created up which battens will be fixed horizontally. The front of the bin store will have a ‘hidden door’ also made using Venetian style battens.
