Tile

 What are Tiles?

Tiles are thin objects, usually square or rectangular in shape. A tile is a manufactured piece of hard-wearing material such as ceramic, stone, metal, baked clay, or even glass, generally used for covering roofs, floors, walls, or other objects such as tabletops.

What are the benefits?

  • Durability - Tile is extremely resilient when it comes to staining and wear. Tile is perfect for placement in high traffic areas. It doesn’t have strong impact resistance, though: if you drop a heavy object on tile, it’s as likely to crack as anything else.
  • Low maintenance - Tile doesn’t need much in the way of upkeep. They’ll need to be cleaned, just like any other surface in your home that gets dirty. You’ll want to apply a sealant on your tile about once every 4-5 years. Aside from that, you don’t have much to worry about when it comes to keeping your tiles in good shape.
  • Cost-effective - Ceramic tiles are very cost-effective: they’re one of the cheapest flooring surfaces available. When you factor the initial cost of purchasing the tile and installing them with their longevity and lack of costly maintenance, it becomes clear that tiles are worth every penny. Of course, this also depends on the type of tile you use: there are more expensive and high-end tiles on the market.
  • Water-resistant - Ceramic tiles have a glazed protective layer on their surface that makes them impervious to water damage and stain penetration. This is why tile is so often used to floor bathrooms. They’re also naturally resistant to humidity, making them ideal for flooring an area that is very hot or moist.
  • Eco-friendly - Tile is usually made out of raw materials like glass, sand and clay. These materials often get combined with other recycled materials to form ceramic tiles.
  • Resale value - Installing tile in your home and garden can also prove to be profitable in the long run if you’re going to put your house on the market. There have been many cases where adding a tile floor to a house tremendously increased its resale value.
  • Versatile - Tiles are perfect for use as flooring or for making a feature stand out whether it’s a wall or a seating area; the possibilities are endless.

The Installation Process

For Tiled Walkway and Steps:
Any debris and soft ground will be removed and discarded via skip. The concrete ground will be used as a perfectly hard sub base for the new tiles to be set. The self-levelling compound will be used to help level the area after M.O.T has been infilled and wackered into any spot which was soft. After the self-levelling compound has set, tile adhesive will be used to set the tiles level and flush to one another, with a beautiful border. After the tiles have sufficiently set, grout will be used to fill and joints and seal the tiles. Tiles will also be set onto the steps, the mortar will be used to help level and make the steps more uniform and to building regulation standards to avoid slips and trips whilst making the area much more attractive.

For Tiled Dining Area:
Once the raised area perimeter sleepers have been installed, the tiled area will be infilled with 4 inches of M.O.T. which is levelled and compressed to give a strong sub-base for the outdoor tiles. The beautiful outdoor tiles will then be set level and flush to the inside of the perimeter. The tiles will be laid on a full bed of tile adhesive. over the top of an added 50mm thick concrete base for the adhesive. Once the tiles have set, joint spacers will be removed and grout will be added. The tiles will then be cleaned off and after a week of allowing the adhesive and grout to dry, the area will be ready to use!
