Porcelain

What is Porcelain?

Porcelain paving is formed by baking a mixture of clay, sand and other minerals in a high-temperature kiln producing an incredibly durable and non-porous material.

What are the benefits?

  • Long-lasting - Porcelain is strong and hard-wearing meaning that it will last for years and often still looks the same as when it was installed. Being non-porous means that porcelain floor tiles are naturally stain-resistant, and will keep their looks and charms with the very basics of cleaning.
  • Tough - During the manufacturing process, outdoor porcelain slabs are baked at extremely high temperatures, turning them into a glass-like material. Once cooled, the tiles are so dense and so hard that they can stand the toughest of challenges!
  • Frostproof - Because porcelain has extremely low porosity the tiles are unaffected by changes in temperature which can sometimes cause damage to natural products. They don’t expand or contract, and they don’t bend and warp as real wood does.
  • Low maintenance - Porcelain paving does not need sealing and can be cleaned with a basic brush & mop or a pressure washer.
  • Fade-resistant - Porcelain is unaffected by the sun so the colour will not fade or change over time, the slabs are also resistant to staining. You never want to step outside and be underwhelmed by your outdoor area, especially when you’ve gone for a marble effect or stone effect tile. Porcelain ensures this never happens.

The Installation Process

For Porcelain Patio:
To start, the area will be excavated 150mm below the finished height of the patio. Crushed type 1 M.O.T will be brought in and raked out level to a depth of 100mm before being compressed to give an even, firm and long-lasting base for the patio. A smart gulley system will divert the flow of water into the nearest drain. Tiles are laid level and flush in staggered courses on a wet bed of predominantly grit based mortar 5:1, all tiles are primed with a slurry to maximise the tiles bond to the mortar. All cuts around the perimeter will be cut neatly to give a classy and professional finish to the edges of the patio. After the mortar has sufficiently set, the patio is ready for grouting. After high-quality grout has been spread into all of the joints in the patio, the flags will be cleaned off with water and sponge to reveal a truly stunning and contemporary patio, pure class.
