Composite Deck
What is Composite Decking?
Composite decking is a man-made building product made up of a mix of wood fibres, plastics and a small number of bonding agents. This mix is heated, formed into board shaped lengths and then cooled. The resulting boards need far less maintenance than traditional wood decking whilst looking more authentic than plastic alternatives.
What are the benefits?
Durability - Designed for maximum durability. It resists fading, staining, scratching and mould, and won’t rot, crack or warp. It’s also insect-proof and splinter-free, making it safer and more comfortable for families with kids and pets.
Low-maintenance - You'll never need to worry about sanding, staining or painting. Just an occasional soap-and-water cleaning is all that’s needed to maintain stability and beauty for decades.
Attractive - Featuring high-definition wood grain patterns, whilst being available in a wide range of colours. Composite decking is perfect for any garden.
Sustainability - Composite decking provides the look and feels of wood without the environmental impact. The deck boards are made using recycled content, including reclaimed industrial wood scraps and recycled plastic from common items.
Value - Initial costs of composite decking can be higher, but when you factor in the cost of ongoing maintenance required with a wood deck, composite decking becomes an exceptional investment.
The Installation Process
For Composite Deck Area:
The deck area will be cleaned before being excavated to the appropriate depth. The area will then be covered by a thick geotextile membrane to suppress the future growth of weeds. Posts holes will be marked every 1sqm and dug out to a minimum of 400mm deep. Treated posts will then be set deeply into the ground with postcrete for a long-lasting and extremely sturdy deck. Treated timbers will be fixed level to the posts to create the frame for the deck. High-quality composite deck boards will then be screwed down flush and evenly, with staggered joints, using a smartboard screw system. The step will also be framed and faced with the composite boards, around the perimeter edging a board will be reversed to create a neat and tidy finish. Once the deck has been installed it will be cleaned and will be ready to use!
